Al Artis, VP of Finance at Sharper Image was our educational keynote speaker at CMA's Annual Meeting in April.

Message From Paul Beretz, CMA Credit Executive of the Year

"What an honor to receive the "Credit Executive of the Year" award for 2008" from CMA! I am really humbled by the recognition and now able to join the ranks of past CMA credit execs of the year, some of who were in attendance at the membership meeting.

I've spent all of my business life in and around credit management and this award is truly one that I will treasure.  Much of my life has been devoted to education - first as an avocation when I was in the corporate world, and now as a vocation as I begin my tenth year in consulting. Besides the undergraduate and graduate programs I teach, I'm very pleased to have have been involved  in both the development and instruction for on line, certificate eduction. This would include the FCIB International Risk Management program as well as CMA's courses in Business Credit Principles, Financial Statement Analysis and Interpretation and Credit Risk Assessment. It's a pleasure working with CMA, a vibrant association that is taking the lead in providing timely, on-line education for credit and business professionals."

"Every year CMA asks it members for nominees for Credit Executive of the Year.  To be nominated is very special as it starts with a recommendation by your peers, which lets you and others know you have made a difference in someone’s career and the CMA organization.  To win the award is very humbling, as Eddy Sumar, said last year when presenting the award to me.

We had 6 nominees this year and unfortunately only one can win, but I think you need to remember that you have all won the respect of your peers to get you to this point.

This year’s winner has served as an officer for our industry credit groups and CMA’s Northern California Board in many areas.

He has worked on ancers.com and CMA’s encyclopedia of Credit.  He is a CICE (Certified International Credit Executive), he has written over 25 articles for various Credit related magazines, published 2 books and of coarse teaches Business Credit.

Industry Credit Group Collection Trends Q1-2008

Each time an Industry Credit Group meets, group members sign in and answer a short survey on the state of collections and future trends.

CMA is now tabulating this data quarter by quarter so that we can identify trends across industries or regions. For those of you who like to know how others in your industry rate your current market, our quarterly Industry Credit Group Collection Trends will answer that question.

Credit Congress Scholarship Winners - Feedback

Jodi,

I am absolutely delighted with the way things turned out and  I really thank you for suggesting I do it.  I definitely wanted to go and now I can, thanks to CMA.   I have been with CMA, NACM, since 1976, so this is wonderful.  I really do believe in the education and  have learned so much and have tried to mentor my associates, one of whom is a Credit Manager now. I have always stressed the education, knowledge, trade groups and resources I have been able to use from NACM' classes, seminars and especially the Credit Congresses. I have also used it for employment, three previous jobs came through Credit Jobs Today, so that has also helped. Thank you for everything.

One thing I have always been frustrated over though, is that NACM, CMA, etc. have never been able to come up with a college curriculum to get a true degree in Credit Management.  I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.  I think you would have more Credit Managers that wanted to be Credit Managers and not choosing this path rather than another because of convenience.  Please use whatever you want for the Daily Blog.

Nannette Bringard, CBA CMA Nevada Credit Executive of the Year!

Our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation goes to Nannette Bringard, CBA from Deluca Liquor & Wine, our 2008-2009 CMA Nevada Credit Executive of the Year.

Nannette has a 20 year history in Credit, 12 of those years as a Credit Manager. She has been highly active in CMA Nevada and our industry trade groups.

Nannette believes in educating herself and others. She taught at last years NACM Western Region Credit Conference, and personally she is on track to obtain her MBA.

Nannette is also the current Secretary for the Southern Nevada Institute of Credit. We are proud to have Nannette and Deluca Liquor as a CMA Member.
